Our recreational classes teach children as young as five the basic core gymnastics skills they will need in the future, as well as beginning to develop their strength, flexibility and body awareness. Once the basic skills are mastered, gymnasts will be invited into our development squad, where they will build on their core skills, become more conditioned and have a chance to enter low-level preparatory competitions. We follow the National Development Plan for acrobatics and once gymnasts are capable they will be invited into the advanced squad.
The display teams are composed of gymnasts from the club, development and advanced squads. Rather than selecting specific members for the team, we give everyone the opportunity to participate and perform at various festivals around the UK as long as they are committed to attending practices. This provides an excellent opporunity for the gymnasts to mix and learn from each other and really helps fester team spirit.
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to take part in gymnastics so all our coaches have attended disability awareness and training courses to ensure we can cater for any individual who enters the club. Where possible, we aim to integrate members of the disability squad into the inclusive main sessions and we have formed strong working relationships with disability charities such as Daisy UK and the English Federation for Disability Sport. Keep an eye out for additional sessions put on during school holidays.
